Ross Rowland Jr. had the idea. Inspired by the 1947 Freedom Train that toured the country after World War II, his bicentennial version visited all 48 contiguous states between 1975 and 1976. It was a traveling display of American artifacts and camaraderie, hitting 140 communities, with Southern Pacific GS-4 #4449 up front for most of the run.
