About this part

Many consider the Mustang the most capable WWII fighter, and it stayed in the fight during the Korean War. This model builds one of those F-51Ds. The P-51D was renamed F-51D when the US Air Force was created. Jets were taking center stage, and the Mustang looked headed for retirement. Then Korea kicked off. Early on, UN forces were in trouble, and USAF P-80s couldn't land where there were often no proper runways. The F-51D stepped up and performed admirably in the ground-attack role as UN forces pushed back.

Features

  • Parts included for six 5-inch HVAR rockets.
  • Wider paddle blade propeller accurately recreated.
  • A choice of SCR-522 transceiver with BC-453B receiver, or new AN/ARC-3 transceiver set. Each has dedicated cockpit parts.
  • New parts depict the slitted fuselage side radiator access panel.
  • Seated and standing pilot figures. The seated one uses new head parts with the P-1A helmet from the Korean War.
  • Three marking options: two US and one Korean.
  • Build it in flight or parked.
