Honda's first passenger production car was the S500 open two-seater, announced at the 1962 Tokyo Motor Show. After the S800 ended, Honda stopped building front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports cars until the S2000 returned in September 1998. It keeps the traditional long nose, short deck look, with futuristic headlights that wrap around the sides. The naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline-4 DOHC VTEC makes over 250hp while cutting toxic exhaust emissions to a tenth of its predecessors'. The engine sits just behind the front axle for 50/50 weight distribution. Four-wheel double wishbone suspension and a newly developed 6-speed manual give strong road handling. Bucket seats and digital indicators fill the cabin.
